Media coverage of the Dead/Archive story
It’s kind of amazing how much attention this has gotten, with articles three days in a row at the New York Time (the latest: Deadheads Must Be Satisfied With 1,300 Audience Tapings - New York Times) and dancing bears on the Arts section masthead yesterday… coverage in the AP, Yahoo, CNN, etc.
I’m sure Boing Boing helped it along, but it says something about the vigor of the Deadhead online community, more than a decade after the demise of the band.
In fact, CNN’s blog reporter, Jackie Schechner, has asked me tape a segment on this topic via webcam tonight. It should air tomorrow (Saturday) - I’ll post details when I have them.
Oh, and it looks like Mickey Hart didn’t appreciate Barlow blaming the drummers:
In an e-mail statement yesterday, Mickey Hart, one of the band’s drummers, said, “I was one of the first supporters of the tapers and the creation of the Grateful Dead taping policies and I continue to believe that the tapers play an important role in expanding our community.”
