They All As't for You...

Almost hope I don't have to explain the relevance, but simultaneous email from two of my more plugged-in psychoswampedelic music sources crossed in my box just now announcing the historic reunion of the original METERS (!), quoting now:

>It's official - the ORIGINAL METERS ARE CONFIRMED for November 11 at the
>Warfield in San Francisco. For those of you who do not appreciate the
>epic,
>historic, and musical highlight of (at least) the decade potential of this
>event, I'm sorry, but if I can say "trust me" and you will listen, you
>won't
>be disappointed
. > >Tix are totally reasonable - $75 on the floor, $65 in the balcony. Opening
>band is tentatively the Wild Mags (how perfect!), contingent on ticket
>sales
>for a Friday night (11/10) Wild Mags show (venue TBD), which would pay for
>the Mags to perform on Saturday, as the Meters gig is understandably
>costing
>a small fortune, and they can't afford an opening band otherwise. Stay
>tuned for details on that.
>

and direct from the horses mouth for t'other:

That's right folks it is nearly official, the ORIGINAL METERS -

Art Neville
George Porter, Jr.
Joesph "Zigaboo" Modeliste
Leo Nocentelli

will be performing for the first time in a LONG LONG time this coming November 11 at the legendary Warfield Theatre on 6th and Market in San Francisco, CA.

Tickets are $70 (not sure if there is a tiered ticket price for balcony vs floor).

This information comes from a source close to the band and is *NOT* from SFX/BGP whom I assume will be the promoters of the gig. SOOOO look for completely official info from them concerning ticket prices, who you need to blow to get backstage, etc ....

I will see you there!

As seen on the GD Hour list:

"There is a new excellent and exhaustive Grateful Dead discography. Definitely check it out."

Like a Steam Locomotive, Rollin' Down the Track

Money people just love to talk about the Dead as a corporate juggernaut, raking in the bucks. Just like Tom Peters goes around misquoting Bill Graham and attributing a bastardized version of the "...best at what they do" as business advice directly from Jerry (URL from forshac - got to get him access to this blog).

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Jerry Garcia once said (I'm paraphrasing here) that like "the town whore," the Dead had gradually become respectable, even an institution. (At other times he compared them to a utility - think the Power Company.) Now they're starting to notice this across the pond, as the UK's Guardian features the growing respectability of the Grateful Dead.

Phil the Kenny G of Psychedelia?

A bit of hyperbole from a Washington Post reporter introduces a reasonably knowledgeable review of (mainly) Dylan's set and a bit of Lesh's from the other night.
